Windows Vista Tips and Tricks…
Released in 2006, Windows Vista follows Windows XP and was succeeded by Windows 7. As expected from a new operating system, Windows Vista contains a number of new features and changes from its predecessor.
Most notable of these changes is the change in the user interface. Among the changes are the search function of the operating system and new tools like the Windows DVD Maker. However, the biggest change of all is its improved security (which means it has an improved computer virus removal program, among other security tools). Many criticized the Windows XP for being extremely vulnerable to attacks, so this is definitely a major change.
Of course, because of this change, managing a Windows Vista is definitely different from managing your previous Windows XP.
For instance, if you want to remove the Internet Explorer notifications regarding your lowered security settings (in case you’re very confident with your computer virus removal tool), you can do so by launching gpedit, msc. You can run this through the Search field or the Run command. Go to the Local Computer Policy then choose Computer Configuration. From there, go to Administrative Templates, then, Windows Components. Finally, choose Internet Explorer. Double click the “turn off the Security Settings Check” then change the setting to “Enabled. Of course, don’t do this unless you’re extremely confident with your computer virus removal capabilities.
If you want to have two visible clocks on your user interface, you can do so by changing the settings in the Date and Time Control Panel menu. Click the ‘Additional Clocks” option there to configure additional clocks with different time zones. With the XP, you need additional software or applications for this. Vista makes it easier for you.
If you want to disable the User Account Control on your Vista, you can easily disable it entirely. Of course, the problem here is that you’ll make your computer more vulnerable and less secure. In any case, from the Control Panel, type “UAC” on your Search field. There, you will get to access the “Turn User Account Control on or off.” Uncheck the “Use User Account Control” option, click OK, and you’re done. After rebooting your computer, you will no longer be bothered by your UAC.
Vista also allows you to clean your context menu (the menu that appears when you press left click on an icon or file). You can use the ShellMenuView (which you can find through the Search field) to find any item you want to remove from your context menu. Disable the item. This will place the items in a LegacyDisable menu which means the key isn’t deleted.
Obviously, Windows Vista will make your life much more convenient as a computer user. The Search field enables you to find menus and programs easily (which, as illustrated earlier, will make it easier for you to configure your operating system). The additional functionality, speed, and security also make Vista a superior system. Although there’s already a new operating system around, the Windows Vista operating system is still a reliable system.
