Whenever you hear about a new toy or gadget that has been released, many adventurous folks want to be the first ones to grab the goods and try them out. That can be a good thing but many times it is a bad thing and potentially even a gamble of your hard-earned money.
Whenever a new product is first released, not only is the price higher but also the gadget will most likely have bugs or issues that have not yet been identified or fixed. In the case of a new operating system or software, there could be potential unknown security issues. We have seen the latter in almost every new Windows software release. In the case of Windows 8, it has been the very confusing and unfriendly interface that has millions wanting their Windows 7 back again.
As an example, remember when the last new I Phone was released? The initial software that came with the phone was using battery life like it was going out of style and people were being charged for time they were not even using. This was all found to be from a bug in the OS of the phone. Several months later the bug was fixed and all the problems were solved. If you were one of the first ones standing in line to get that phone, you had the disappointment of dealing with all the bugs. If you were one of the ones to wait and buy the phone after the bugs were resolved, you would have had a much happier experience. It always pays to wait!
I can remember when I wanted to be one of the first to own an X-10 home automation system. I bought the system the first week it was released and I had all kinds of issues with the hardware part of the system. It took several months to identify the issue and finally come out with a fix. I finally purchased the second unit without the bug and it has worked perfectly for years.
For those of you using Windows 8, a new version will be coming out at the end of the year. Microsoft promises to fix some of the issues that folks have been complaining about ever since it first came out. The new version will be called Windows Blue but I would not want to be the first in line to try it out. You know it is going to have all kinds of bugs and problems. Wait till the second generation of it is released before trying it out.
In another example, look at when they first came out with flat screen LCD computer monitors. I wanted to be one of the first on the block to have one. My first flat screen cost me almost 1000.00 and it was only a 15-inch monitor! Several months later, the price dropped in half and then it dropped in half again until they were around 200.00 or less. If I just waited, I could of saved 800 bucks.
You can see by all the above examples that only can you save money by waiting for that new toy, but you have the added benefit of getting a product that has most of the bugs worked out for you.
