Often times we find that when our computers are running good, we often fail to take precautions to protect our precious data. I know myself, when you are totally comfortable with the performance of your computer, you forget that parts of your system are run by mechanical motors (The Hard Drive) while the rest of your system relies on hundreds of tiny chips, capacitors and resisters which all extremely sensitive to heat and electrical spikes. In addition, don’t forget the constant deluge of Malware that is thrown at you almost every day you are on the computer. As if this were not enough, how about putting human error in the equation. How many times have you accidentally erased an important file that you cannot live without? It has probably happened a lot more times then you would like to think about.
When you think of backups, you usually just think of important documents and pictures. This is, unfortunately, not always the case. Good backups should also include e-mails, cloud data and apps. Just because you have your vital information saved in the cloud does not always mean it is safe. What if a catastrophic event occurs at your provider or a hacker gets into your account? All your valuable information could be lost. A secondary backup is almost always recommended. A second back up copy is vital not only with a local hard drive, but also with your information that is stored in the cloud.
Almost every call that I go into that involves a virus or other Windows issue does not have a current back up. I always try to educate our customers on the importance of doing this. Having a good back up can really help you sleep better at night knowing that you are not in danger of loosing all your data.
There is a great product called Spanning Backup, which helps you to protect all your Google information including G mail, your Google calendar, contacts and sites. Since more and more businesses and personal computers are using G Mail as their primary means of Internet communication, it is vitally important to have a backup so you do not loose valuable information or customer contacts. In fact, this software will actually backup your entire account for optimum peace of mind in the case of a catastrophic event.
This product also lets you schedule your backups and also allows you to back up part or all of your information. They can even send you e-mail with the details of your last backup that you can review. In addition, the product is the only product of it’s kind to be SSAE 16 compliant so you know you can trust them with your data.
So the next time you feel that just because your program saves information in the cloud that you are safe from disaster, think again. Having that extra backup could mean the difference of having to recover from a disaster to having just a typical day at the office!
