If you have large files on your computer and you do not want to remove them, then you need to find a way to deal with all that space that they are using. Large files can be anything from animation files, CAD files, movies, videos, photos to documents.
Most people when they think about creating more space for their computer automatically think that the files need to be removed. This can be an easy fix, but it can also be a huge inconvenience if those files are needed or are used often.
Removing the files from your computer usually consists of either deleting the files all together or placing them on an external hard drive, flash drive or a secondary internal hard drive. It can be costly to purchase the extra peripherals for saving the files and of course deleting them may just be totally out of the question, so what do you do?
Using a program that will compress your files such as a zip program you can greatly increase your hard drive space while leaving the files on your system. A zip program can reduce the size of the file by up to 75%, yes that’s right, 75%!
So, by zipping up and compressing your files you can keep them where you need them, right on your computer and not have to worry about wasted space. When your hard drive becomes too full it will slow the entire process of your system down. When you try to open programs or retrieve files it will bog the system down as the resources are so limited. Having a larger hard drive is a great answer but for those who cannot afford to purchase a larger hard drive, zipping is the most reasonable solution.
In order to zip your files up you can simply add them to a folder and then right click on the folder and choose “send to” when that box opens up select the compressed (zipped file) option and left click. The zipped folder will be placed in the same folder as the one you are zipping is located and can be renamed to whatever you want. You can then delete the unzipped files and folders to create the space you need.
