In 2010, Apple released its first tablet computer. There was a lot of criticism about the name and the fact that it was simply an oversized Ipod touch. To the critics’ surprise, when it was released, Apple sold out of all of them in the first day.
It was the first time anyone had paid much attention to tablet computers. Although tablets had been around for several years, no one really cared much about owning one. A fully equipped computer was still considered more desirable, simply because it had more capabilities. However, all of that changed when Apple released its Ipad.
Now, two years later, the Ipad is still the most popular tablet computer available. Whether it is because it is from Apple or because of its capabilities is difficult to know, but consumers immediately jumped on the tablet bandwagon when the Ipad was released. There is some competition, however.
Google has created a software platform known as Android, which allows any company that supports Android software to use it. This has allowed virtually every computer company in the world to compete with Apple. There are now at least ten different Android tablets to choose from, each with its own angle for competing against Apple.
The question you must ask yourself then is this: What do you want your tablet to do? Apple’s main focus is, and always has been, to keep their computers to themselves. If you want something simple and easy to use, then go for Apple. You have an extremely wide range of apps to choose from, which means that your software desires are close to unlimited.
However, you cannot make the computer do whatever you may want. The IOS platform used by Apple is designed in such a way so as to prevent users from playing with it, which means that programmers are severely limited in their abilities to make any adjustments to the Apple tablet.
In other words, if you like to customize your computers to fit your personal style, you should probably get an Android. On the other hand, if you like it just the way it is plus like what it’s able to do without making any of your own changes, then the Ipad might be for you.
Some of the other qualities that Android tablets have over the Ipad is camera capability. The cameras on an Android typically have a much better screen resolution as well. The higher number of pixels that come standard on the Android versions give you a clearer picture, making it easier to see what you are doing.
The main difference between the Ipad and an Android, however, is the price. It is not difficult to find an Android that is up to $200 less than the Ipad, so if cost is your main concern, then an Android is probably the better decision.
All in all, the decision comes down to what you prefer in your tablet. Knowing the capabilities in each, however, will allow you to make a much more informed decision so that when it comes time to buy your tablet, you are not choosing blindly.
