Are smart phones replacing the personal computer?
If you have been following the technological developments that have been taking place then you will conclude that the Smartphone is gradually turning into some form of personal computer. The specifications are bound to move away from pure entertainment into real business functionality.
Their incredible portability puts smartphones in the right place to dominate this market sector for years to come. Other analysts have predicted that the computer will be dead in a few years since people will no longer see the need for it. There are some smartphones that would give any PC a run for its money in terms of functionality. When it comes to mobility and portability there is simply no contest; the Smartphone is the king. In fact there are plans to turn some mobile phones into banks.
- The technical dynamics: The only barrier that was slowing the revolution was the lack of technology but that particular problem has now been resolved. A case in point is where graphs have been developed to help diabetes to take their medication on time. It has been estimated that Western Europe alone has been able to consume 45 million mobile units which allow the users to browse the internet. They can undertake all the functions which were previously associated with the personal computer such as email and contact lists. Moreover these gadgets have been at the forefront of the social media.
- Programs and their usage: The advent of MySpace and FaceBook means that the global village has been realized. You can communicate with anyone across the globe as long as you understand their priorities and the things that they want to do. These social media outlets need people who are mobile and the personal computer is not going to be able to keep up for much longer. Apart from making expensive international phone calls, you can send texts at very affordable prices. It has been estimated that on a global basis smartphones represent 24% of the mobile phone market. They are growing and there was a significant increase of 15% in the period running from January to March 2011.
- Consumer demands: All these changes are a result of the consumer demands which relate to the phone as a means of communication and work. There are no typical patterns in the way that people are using their mobile phones. The applications lists are virtually endless and an imaginative person will be able to change their operations according to the specific requirements that are set by the clients. The manufacturers are responding appropriately with gadgets that can deliver high end communication networks.
Should we say goodbye to the personal computer? There are some traditionalists who will continue to use the system. However the days of MS-Dos are almost a few decades way back. This is what is going to happen to the computer. Eventually it will be something quaint that was once used by people who did business. Meanwhile the younger generation will picking up the next big thing in terms of the smartphones that are offered.
