Laptop or Desktop: Which Is The Best For Me?

Hi everybody, today we are going to talk about what type of computer I should buy, a Laptop or Desktop. With the bad economy, many of us are trying to hold on to our older machines as long as possible. Sooner or later, a vital piece of hardware is going to go bad and you are going to want one of those new shiny laptops. The big question is what should I buy and what should I get on the inside?

The first decision that you have to make is should I get a laptop or a desktop. There are several factors to consider when making this decision. If you like to work in different parts of the house or if you do a lot of traveling, you will do well with a laptop computer. Laptop computers are not quite as fast as desktops but for light to medium work, they will do just fine. There are many brands out there but me personal favorite is Toshiba. They are fast, lightweight and have lots of great features. The battery life is also exceptional. I was using mine one day and I almost forgot it was on battery power. I ran it for several hours before the low battery warning came on. I was impressed. Regardless of the brand, you want to be sure you have at least 4 Gigs of RAM and also a 64-bit operating system will also add that extra punch to the system. My system has an ample 17” monitor that is crystal clear. This type of system will work great for you if you don’t play a lot of intense games or do a lot of graphic or movie editing.

If you always tend to work at the same workstation and you need to have several applications open at the same time, you might want to consider a desktop computer as your main choice. This type of computer is much more flexible in what can be added to upgrade the system. If you do lots of graphics or have a need for multiple monitors, this is the best choice hands down. When purchasing a desktop system, you want to be sure you have a minimum of 4 Gigs of RAM and a nice big hard drive to save all those great pictures you are sure to add to your library. HP seems to be a good bet for most people. They are fast and they make restoring your system easy with the onboard restore option. You can easily upgrade the graphics card so you can play all those graphic intensive games with ease.Tablets are another option that is becoming very popular. Tablets are small and lightweight but this option is not for everybody. Many tablets use apps instead of programs to do many of its tasks. This type of system is good if you only do things web browsing and Facebook. They do not take the place of a full sized machine. For me, I have very little use for a Tablet PC because most of the work I do involves specific programs that you just cannot get on a Tablet. Using a Tablet PC is much like using a large Smart Phone without the voice capability. So if you have an older system getting ready to go south, there are many options out there. Carefully weigh the benefits of all the choices before making your decision.
