With today’s hard times, people are getting more desperate then ever and are looking for quick ways to add cash to their portfolio. The problem is, some of that cash might just be yours. You do not have to look far to find a scammer. You get spam e-mails in your inbox everyday that you know are scams but what about the ones that look like the real deal? Remember
Spammers are getting very clever and also very creative. They are making their e-mails look just like the real thing and many folks are falling prey to their tactics. For example, right here locally there is a scam going around related to our electric company FPL. Scammers are sending out e-mails that look like they are from FPL but they actually are not.
Since many folks are on paperless billing, they will think nothing of just clicking on the links thinking it is a copy of their bill. If the e-mail is a scam, you will likely get infected once clicking on one of the links. If you enter your personal information the scammers will have that also.
It is not only utilities that can be affected by this type of scam. If you do a lot of ordering online you are most likely waiting for packages to be delivered from retailers such as Amazon or Sears. While you are scanning through your e-mail, you might see one that says it contains the tracking information for your latest purchase. You need to be very weary about this kind of e-mail.
In all likelihood it is a scam that can severely infect and damage your computer. If you are ever in doubt about a package delivery or you are wondering when it will arrive, always navigate to the site where you purchased the product to gain access to the tracking information. This is by far the safest way to check on a package.
Now that we covered some of the Internet scams, what about your home phone? This is another place that scammers and telemarketers are taking advantage of. The same type of scam that we talked about above in your e-mails could also happen over the phone. You might get a call saying that your credit card is past due or your electric is going to be shut off.
If you fall for the scam, the hackers will have all the information they need to cause some great hardship to you and your family. Whenever you get a call about a bill or credit card, never give any information to anybody. Find out what card or bill I s in question and call the number on your card or your bill to verify there is even a problem. If they cannot or will not give you that information, hang up.
Recently, lots of folks have been getting phone calls from help centers telling them that their computers are running bad. A guy might call and say he is from Microsoft. He will appear to know about what is going on inside your computer. He actually is just mentioning problems that anybody would find on almost any computer that was tested. If you get a call of this nature, hang up immediately. Do not let these people in your computer! If you do, please call a professional to check your system for viruses or other means that a hacker could use to get inside your system.
These are just a few examples about how hackers will try to get their hands on your hard earned cash! There are countless other possibilities but you get the idea. We need to put a grinding halt on peoples hard earned cash going to these thieves. If reading this article helps at least one person avoid one of these scams then I have done my job.
