Downloading AdAware:
Installing AdAware:
Step 3: Ad-Aware needs to connect to the internet in order to download the update, so click connect to start the process.
Step 4: After Ad-Aware finds the update, you need to download and install this file, so click “OK”.
Step 5: When Ad-Aware has completed the download, your computer’s Ad-Aware will be updated, and the program will ask you to acknowledge and finish the process, so click “Finish”.
Step 6: You will now return to the original Ad-Aware window, where you can begin the Ad-Aware scan of your computer by clicking “Start”.
Step 7: Allow the scan to run until it finishes on its own and the bar at the top reads “Scan Complete”. Ad-aware will inform you of how many nasty or unnecessary files it identified on your computer and will ask for your acknowledgement to continue; click “Next”.
Step 8: Ad-Aware will show you a list of files it identified during the scan. Right click on the screen and select “Select All Objects”. Then click “Next” to move on to the next step.
Step 9: Ad-Aware will then inform you that it will attempt to remove the Adware file. Click “OK”.
That’s it, you are all done. In most cases if your computer was heavily infected (300+ items) it should be much faster. You should run AdAware whenever you start getting a lot of pop-ups, or your computer starts acting up, or once every 2-3 weeks for maintenance purposes. Make sure to check for updates (Step 3) whenever possible!
NOTE: If Ad-Aware warns you that it was not able to remove all the items found, it will ask you if you want to remove them at the next restart. Choose Yes in this instance and reboot your computer.
