As if we do not have enough security problems to worry about, now we have to worry when we download legitimist anti-virus software and apps. Kaspersky is now warning consumers to be wary when downloading apps on your Android, Windows phone and computer. You need to be 100% sure that you are getting the correct app.
There is an app called Kaspersky Mobile that has the same description of the product as is located on the home page of Kaspersky. The product is designed to protect devices such as your smart phone or tablet. The app costs 4.00 and looks like the read deal but it is far from it. Users claim the product scans your system but it is likely that the scans are either fake or potentially even trying to get information from your system.
Fake anti-virus is nothing new to the industry. A time ago, AVG was having issues with a fake AV that was claiming to be the real deal. In fact, they even stole the original icon to make the product look authentic. The product would get into your system once you either downloaded it or got it accidentally from n e-mail or other source. It would then create all kinds of havoc with your computer like blocking websites and telling you that your system had problems that in actuality it did not. Often times, your system had to be cleaned by a professional technician in order to get going again.
The name of another app that claims to be Kaspersky is called Virus Shield and it is available on the Google Play Store. This app is also a fake and should be avoided. If you already have installed it, get rid of it immediately.
The same issue applies to computers as well. Three is a program called Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2014 and it is not the real deal. The product is not a part of Kaspersky and it should not be downloaded.
The problem with getting legit programs is real and not only applies to anti-virus but to other software categories such as browsers. If you have tried to download Firefox lately, you will be presented with all kinds of options many of which are not Mozilla. If you download from a third party source, you will likely get Firefox but you also get a slew of programs you simply do not want also. You will get stuff like Conduit, My PC Backup and much, much more.
These products will severely slow down your computer and create all kinds of annoying pop ups while you are surfing. Always investigate your sites and be sure that they are the real sites for the download. Although not new, these scams are only getting worse and worse with time and there is no end in sight. It is more important then ever to be sure of what you are downloading then ever before.
