When Viruses Attack.

Your computer stores all of your personal and financial data as well as your precious memories and important documents. When you think of everything you could lose if your system crashed it could be enough to make your stomach turn. In the event of a virus attack you are at risk to lose everything, have your information stolen and even have your computer rendered unusable.

To prevent an attack from a virus or other malware it is imperative that you install anti-virus software on your computer. You should ensure that the software is updated frequently so that the definition database knows and understand what suspicious files to look for and how to block them or rid them from your system. Use a firewall or other network security that will stop network intrusions. Always keep your wireless networks locked with secure passwords and run your system scans faithfully.

Adware or spyware can be a nuisance but is usually harmless, other than slowing down your system and your internet speed. You will notice that more and more banners and pop up ads appear on your system and when you log online you are susceptible to slower speeds and even lock ups.

Viruses and Trojans can be designed to be very malicious; they can corrupt system files, alter your registry and render your system unusable. If you have not performed backups of your system and all its important files and documents there are some viruses that will cause you to lose everything.

In order to get rid of viruses on your system you have to have antivirus installed. If you have not installed antivirus on your system you should do so as soon as you think you may have become infected. Many viruses will render your system unable to install new programs and even halt you from using your existing antivirus software. These viruses can be deadly to your system and need to be taken care of immediately.

Since you will be unable to perform system scans, make changes to your registry or even enter your system into safe mode you will need to do a system restore. The virus will stop you from entering the system restore feature that is built into your Windows environment, so you will have to go another route.

You can recover your system and restore it back to factory settings, but you must backup and save your files, documents, pictures and any other important data onto disk or an external drive before you do, otherwise it will be lost for good.

If your computer came with a recovery disk you will need to use that, if you use Windows 7 then your recovery feature can be found by hitting the F10 key at boot up and entering the Advanced Options to find the recovery portion. This process will take several minutes and once it is complete you will find that your Windows is back up and running properly and back to its original factory settings.
