How to Make Your Website Graphics Load Fast ...

Understanding web design is not as easy or as essential as installing a computer virus removal program. However, it is certainly a useful skill to have. In any case, web design is a tricky factor in website creation because it is one of the first elements of a website that a visitor sees. If the visitor does not like the design, even if the information it contains is relevant, he can easily close the browser or move on to another website. The internet is vast; there will be other websites that offer the same content and information you offer. The design you use will serve as your hook to entice visitors to dig deeper into your website.

Part of good design is fast loading time. It doesn’t matter if your site has good design if it doesn’t load fast. Remember: your visitors will not spend time waiting for your graphics to load. If it does not load in less than seven seconds, your visitors will leave. So this begs the questions: how do you make your graphics load faster than usual?

First off, use the right file format. Take note: png, gif, and jpeg are the formats that most web browsers support. However, stick with gif and jpeg. Although png is common, it isn’t supported by older browsers. Other file formats may work for some browsers, but they will not work for all. Use the gif format for line drawings, screenshots, cartoons, and animations, while the jpeg format for photographs and pictures with several gradients or blends.

Of course, when choosing graphics for your website, make sure it is free of virus using your computer virus removal program.

It would also help if you reduce the file size of your graphics. For instance, during jpeg conversion, you will be asked to select image quality. The lower the quality of the picture, the smaller the file size. This, in turn, means the picture will load faster. Consequently, do not use large graphics. If you really need to put the picture, use a thumbnail instead. With this, visitors can simply click on the thumbnail to open a new window to view the actual size of the picture. This will leave the load time of your website unaffected.

Take note that when coding your website, you should indicate the width and height of your graphics file. If you don’t, the browser may not load the site properly. Setting the size will allow the browser to lay out the page quickly even though the graphics have not fully loaded.

Lastly, when all else fails, try to split your content. Make smaller pages so it will load faster rather than making a page with too many crammed files and graphics. This will mean more pages. However, a visitor would rather visit from page to page as long as it loads fast rather than wait for a page to load. Needless to say, make use of your computer virus removal to ensure the graphics you use are clean.
